Project Overview

This project will construct a 1 mile trail within Core Creek Park, with the goal of linking existing park trails to the intersection of Woodbourne and Ellis Roads. This extension will traverse a tributary of Core Creek and requires the installation of a floating boardwalk to complete the trail.

The first of its kind in the county, the boardwalk will accommodate a 10-foot-wide shared use trail with a rest area in its center. The floating portion of the boardwalk will be 150 feet, with ramps of 25 feet at its ends. The ramps will be designed to adjust to the rise and fall of the lake, helping keep the trail open during times of low and high lake levels.

The new trail will link an existing picnic area to the intersection of Ellis and Woodbourne Roads. Beginning at the picnic area, the trail will run east along Tollgate Road adjacent to Lake Luxembourg. It will then pivot north, mirroring the coastline of the lake, before continuing east and run between Ellis Road and Lake Luxembourg, finishing at an existing fishing area at Woodbourne Road.

Construction is set to begin in 2024 with a completion date scheduled for 2026. It is part of a larger alignment known as the Neshaminy Greenway Trail. This proposed trail alignment is planned to one day run along Neshaminy Creek, linking communities and recreational facilities at the creek’s beginning near Chalfont Borough with its confluence at the Delaware River.
